A highly complex £4.5m structural engineering project for Norwich Union to create modern retail units with residential apartments above within the shell of a listed building. Almost 500 tonnes of steel were erected by hand within and around the existing cast iron and masonry structure from basement to underside of second floor. The existing 3 storey masonry structure above was then jacked onto the new frame after which the original frame was completely removed with no resulting cracking or movement of the retained structure.
