4Urban’s redevelopment of 5Rise Shopping & Library marked the start of the long overdue regeneration of retail facilities in Bingley town centre.
Spring & Co. instructed the construction works in September 2008 to create 59,500sq ft of retail space, with a 12,000sq ft Co‑operative food store as the anchor tenant. The scheme also provides a custom built 6,000sq ft public library, relocated from its previous first floor location, together with a range of one‑bed apartments, tailored specifically to suit young professionals and first time buyers. Project completion was October 2009.
The scheme involved the re-orientation of the existing mall to provide a meaningful pedestrian link from existing car parking, through the scheme, and on to the main retail street running into the town centre. This was a complex project from a structural point of view with extensive temporary works designs required.
The length of programme reflects the complicated nature of the projected which involved phased handovers to ensure that access to all premises in and around the scheme was maintained at all times. This meant that there were several key completion dates, which were all met on time and to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.
