Alan Newsome and Dominic Machell Join the Board of Directors

We are very pleased to announce that in January 2022 Alan Newsome and Dominic Machell accepted our offer to join the Board of Directors at MJM Consulting Engineers Ltd.

MJM Consulting Engineers Ltd is an independently owned practice established over 40 years ago. We operate throughout the UK and many of our colleagues have worked together for decades. Both Alan and Dominic have been with MJM for a significant proportion of their careers and their seats on the board are testimony to their hard work and dedication throughout that time. They join and strengthen the existing
board of directors comprising Andy Dickson, Tom Murphy and Rob Short alongside company co-owners Michelle Davison and John Leach.

Alan is a chartered engineer with over 20 years in the industry. He started his career on the drawing board as a junior technician, but even then he had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. After gaining his degree and becoming chartered, Alan continued to embark on a succession of post graduate Master’s Degree courses in his spare time. Unsurprisingly, his calm, kind nature combined with his incredible technical
knowledge makes him a strong team leader and a trusted mentor. Alan’s team is currently working on a number of high profile production and logistics projects, which will deliver over 4 million square feet of industrial space once complete.

Dominic joined MJM over 7 years ago and is a chartered engineer who leads a team of civil and structural engineers and technicians. During his time at MJM Dominic has built excellent relationships with many of our new and long standing clients. His attention to detail and technical knowledge regularly leads to both time and cost savings across projects. He recently saved one of our clients over £1m by reducing the reinforcement in a third party specialist slab design. Dominic’s team have completed work across a variety of sectors, with current projects including 2 new retail parks, 3 new food stores, a large residential housing site and several multi storey modular build schools.

Very few practices encourage their engineers to gain experience across every aspect of civil and structural engineering, but at MJM, our engineers do just that. Each of our engineers is equipped to provide a holistic engineering view of the project, whilst still developing specialisms in their specific spheres of interest. This is one of the reasons why it is our policy to promote from within wherever possible.

Managing Director Michelle Davison said “On any project it is important that we deliver an outstanding technical service, but we also recognise that developing strong, long term relationships with fellow consultants and clients is a key factor to our success. I’m proud to say that the majority of our workload comes to us through repeat business with a number of relationships spanning more than 3 decades. Alan
and Dominic fully understand our company ethos that maintaining a pro-active, can do attitude throughout all stages of a project is equally as important as their excellent technical ability. On behalf of all the directors, I would like to thank Alan and Dominic for their commitment and hard work and congratulate them as they embark on their new roles”

John Leach , Chairman of the MJMC Group added “When Michelle and I completed our management buyout in June 2020, we were in the middle of a pandemic, working from home and wrestling with the economic uncertainties and lack of market confidence caused by Brexit. It would be foolish to say that we weren’t apprehensive, but the dedication and flexibility of all of our colleagues has astonished us. It has
also meant that the company has not just grown, but unashamedly flourished over the last 2 years. With an excellent, dedicated workforce combined with a strong pipeline of work already secured for 2022, we have solid foundations for future growth. The appointment of Alan and Dominic to the board complements our existing management team and secures the long term vision and future success of the
company. I congratulate them and we are all excited to see what the future holds for us.”
